Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 250 2005

Towers Thompson was placed 183rd in the Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 250 league table of Britain's mid-market private companies this month. The table is equivalent to numbers 101 to 350 of the Sunday Times Top Track 100 league table of Britain's 100 biggest private companies. Towers Thompson was placed above other prominent mid-market companies on the table including Arsenal (No.185, £156.9m) and Chelsea (No.197, £152.1m)

Alan Keir, co-head of commercial banking at HSBC, the title sponsors of the league table, comments: "Private companies like the mid-market leaders on the Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 250 drive our econmy forward. With low interest rates encouraging firms to expand both in Britian and overseas.

The International food distribution business Towers Thompson supplies ambient, chilled and frozen lamb, beef, pork, poultry and bacon to wholesalers, food makers and retailers across Britain, Europe, Russia, Australia and New Zealand. It also sources and distributes own-brand Scotch beef from five British depots. The business, founded in 1898 and led by chief executive Alan Thompson, had sales of £158.3m in 2004.
