BDCI Festival Dinner 2007

The Grand Ballroom of the London Hilton provided a majestic setting once more for the 2007 BDCI Festival Dinner presided over by Dennis Clark of Towers Thompson, this years Festival Chairman. Among the many distinguished invited guests on the top table the Chairman was especially pleased to welcome the Master of the Worshipful Company of Butchers, John Tuckwell.

Dennis’s popularity was evident in the large number attending the occasion, just exceeding last year’s record with 971 in the Ballroom. Once assembled and after a quick round of Heads and Tails conducted by Toastmaster Neil Hunt, the meal got underway.  The London Hilton rose to the occasion commendably under the direction of Banqueting Director, David Morris-Jones.  The BDCI were grateful to EBLEX who once again sponsored the excellent main course Fillets of Beef.

Past Festival Chairman Richard Cracknell’s witty introduction was followed by a speech from The Festival Chairman in which he paid tribute to all those involved in the running of the BDCI, together with those who had supported the evening, whether in person, through advertisements, with donations or sponsorship. Dennis also described the splendid efforts that had been undertaken by Towers Thompson during the year.  Events ranging from a sponsored slim, a Golf day to a Flower Show and a sponsored run formed part of their wonderful support to the charity.

The Rt. Hon. Sir Jeremy Hanley was the evening’s guest speaker who entertained the assembled company with many witty anecdotes and political imitations in true ‘Bremner’ style. The evening concluded with the drawing of a most generous array of items including a fantastic Peugeot 107, followed by the Auction which saw an equally impressive list of items with some wonderful bidding and more great support for the charity. Altogether over £77,000 was raised by the evening’s attractions.

Catching his breath from a most memorable evening, Dennis Clark said “This was a superb event, made more so by the large number of people who attended. We were indeed lucky to have a large amount of splendid Auction and Raffle prizes which contributed to the BDCI fund. The Rt. Hon Sir Jeremy Handley gave an entertaining insight into Parliamentary life and the Eblex sponsored Beef Fillets were a huge success and greatly enjoyed by all.”
